REDUCING SHRINK
I recently spoke with the Director of Loss Prevention for a major American corporation concerning his efforts to reduce shrink. He confided in me that he has reduced his company's losses by almost fifty percent by following some simple steps.
1. EVERY new employee must undergo a background investigation.
People with something to hide will seek out companies that do not require a background investigation. I will add that many criminals know others who work for companies and have found out how to manipulate the system.
2. ALL MANAGERS were required to undergo a background investigation.
It was found that some managers had lied on their application in order to gain employment.
3. ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE was upgraded to include more modern equipment which gives total recall of events via digitally recorded video.
All cameras record directly to a digital database. This includes internal and external coverage with time and date stamp displayed. Often forgotten PERIMETER COVERAGE is of great importance.
